Tempo rubato..... Rubato is an expressive shaping of music that is a part of phrasing. While rubato is often loosely taken to mean playing with expressive and rhythmic freedom, it was traditionally used specifically in the context of expression as speeding up and then slowing down the tempo.
Individual lessons are currently offered for piano, voice, percussion/drums,
guitar (acoustic or electric), bass, ukulele, mandolin, banjo, and most brass & woodwind instruments (flute, clarinet, trumpet, saxophone, etc.) |

Though Rubato hasn't been around for very long yet, Antioch has had a music store offering lessons to students of all abilities for decades prior to the final closing of the downtown store in 2017. At that time, Kim Gogolewski opened KG Piano Studio at the corner of Lake and Main Street on the 3rd floor of the Dahl & Dahl building. Calls started coming in asking if violin, guitar, drums, and other instruments were also taught there. Unfortunately, the answer was no. These calls kept happening though and that prompted Kim to consider opening under a new name that would serve the community and bring music lessons for most instruments back to Antioch.
Rubato Music Studio was founded in May of 2020. Yes, you read that correctly. The lease agreement for the original location at Routes 59 & 173 was signed in early March of 2020 just before the world shut down. The studio thrived in the coming years prompting a move to a better location in May of 2023. The new space at 422 Lake Street came with more parking & a custom floor plan maximizing use of the new space. We welcome students of all abilities to take music lessons here at Rubato. Our motto, "For the Love of Music", represents our studio's philosophy and simply states that we hope to achieve inspiring a lifelong love of music in our students. Our joy is in teaching and seeing our students progress through their musical journeys.

We want every student to do as little or as much as they desire when it comes to music. Our focus is simple - help all students achieve their goals by teaching the music in a way that makes sense, and by providing opportunities to demonstrate what they have learned during their lessons.
