30 Minute Lessons
recommended for beginners

The main focus of beginner lessons is to introduce the student to all things musical.  This includes, but is not limited to; note reading, rhythm, dynamics, and pedaling. While an acoustic or a digital piano with pedals and weighted keys is preferred, an electric keyboard with at least 76 keys is strongly encouraged when first starting lessons.  Beginning technique and music reading skills can be successfully accomplished on a basic keyboard.  Students will be required to have their own set of method books to be brought with to each lesson.

45 Minute Lessons
recommended for late beginners to intermediates

At the late beginner/early intermediate level, students will broaden their devlopment by focusing on skills that include more articulation and artistic expression when playing a piece of music.  When a student reaches the late beginner/early intermediate level, it is highly recommended that they have an adequate instrument to practice on.  If you don't already have one, upgrading to an acoustic or digital piano with 88 touch sensitive, weighted keys, and pedals, will help the student grow in their artistic expression and abilities.  Plus, it's more fun to play on the "real thing"!

60 Minute Lessons
recommended for late intermediates to advanced

At the late intermediate level, students have achieved a good understanding of music.  They are able to work more independently, but still need instruction to continue to grow as musicians.

Advanced students are typically those that don't need any help actually reading or learning their music, but want continued instruction to improve their artistic abilities and a deeper understanding of music.

What does a lesson with Jason look like?
Teaching is geared towards student goals. Highly personalized lesson plans built per individual based on their goals. For instance, having experience with Grade school, High school, & College level material while also working with tons of artists who have various backgrounds and styles across the country, there is rarely a drum related question that I cannot answer.  Books will be recommended and required for lessons if needed, however I like to write my own exercises and use them as a major tool outside of books.

Lesson times can vary; 30 min / 45 min/ 60 min lessons are available to all students.
Here is a recommendation for skill level:
30 min / Beginner - Advanced
45 min / Intermediate - Advanced
60 min / Intermediate - Advanced

Voice
taught by Dave or James
Picture
At each lesson, vocal students will be discovering what their true voice is, how to warm it up properly, and how to use it confidently.  Voice lessons are goal oriented and are designed to help vocal students become not only great singers who are comfortable with their own voice, but great musicians, as they will learn theory and history in addition to technique and repertoire.
Student curriculum is personalized, and students may need to purchase additional materials outside of the materials I provide for them. It is expected that students practice outside of their lessons so that the lesson time can be used efficiently.  It would be helpful for voice students to have access to a piano or keyboard for practice outside of their lesson time.

Guitar - Acoustic, Electric & Bass
taught by Dave, James or Tim
All three of our guitar instructors at Rubato have the same goal in mind - to teach each student to play in a way that leads to their success!  Tim, Dave and James all have different styles of teaching, but all of their students leave their lessons smiling every week!
